Enemy Animation Help

I have the enemy animation playing so far. but I'm having trouble with transitions. I have a simple capsul object with disabled mesh renderer, I have placed the tyrant zombie on the capsul and added a animator controller and 2 animations Idle and run. I create transition and add a speed float and set to if greater than 1 true. Now, here is my question. Where do I write the script for the floats I add to the enemy ? I watch tutorials and I am able to add them to my FPS controller but I'm not understanding how to add the float/transition script to an enemy capsul.. Please answer if you can Thank you, Richie J
